Separation Anxiety coaching and support
It can be frustrating, isolating and emotionally exhausting when your dog struggles to be left alone. Separation anxiety doesn’t just affect your dog, it affects your peace of mind, your schedule, and your everyday life.
Not Sure where to begin?
Maybe you’ve already tried leaving your dog to 'get used to it.' Well-meaning advice from friends or family often misses the mark, especially if they haven’t experienced it themselves. But separation anxiety isn’t that simple, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
I can help!
How it works
Step 1
We begin with a comprehensive 1:1 assessment in your home to understand your dog’s behaviour, triggers, environment, and routine. This session sets the foundation for a tailored plan that meets your dog exactly where they are. We will deep dive into all aspects of your dog’s life that may be affecting their ability to cope home alone.
Step 2
Rolling monthly support will help you build momentum and continue to progress with training. Get regular check-ins, expert feedback, and adaptable strategies to support lasting behaviour change. We’ll also have a shared progress tracker and personalised training plan for you to follow.
Step 3
Add on a targeted one to one support session at a discounted rate in person or online. We’ll unwrap specific sticking points or new behavioural challenges that may be affecting progress. A focused refresh to help you and your dog move forward with confidence.

Douglas’ Story
As you may have noticed, Douglas is my own dog and we have worked through separation anxiety since he was a tiny pup. After bringing him home at 9 weeks old despite starting with really short periods of alone time, this would send him into a complete frenzy of panic!
We quickly realised we needed some specialist support and a carefully constructed training plan to help get him more comfortable and confident when home alone.
While he still has the occasional wobble and we’ve had to adapt in ways we never expected, the transformation has been huge. He is now comfortable, confident, and able to stay at home by himself, something that once felt completely out of reach.
Of course, he’ll always choose being a lap dog curled up with you on the sofa over anything else, but now it’s by choice, not fear.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long does the training take?
A: This is one of those classic “how long is a piece of string” questions. Every dog is different, and the timeline will depend on factors like how intense their current reaction to alone time is, whether we can prevent them from experiencing absences they find overwhelming, and how consistently the training can be put into practice.
The positive news is that with the right approach, steady progress is absolutely achievable. What I can confidently promise is that the training requires patience, time and commitment but, with that, it will pay off. And I’ll guide you every step of the way!
Q: Do I have to commit to the ongoing monthly subscription?
A: The ongoing support option is completely flexible. You can book it on a rolling monthly basis and keep it for as long or as little as you need.
Most owners do choose to stay on the monthly subscription because overcoming separation anxiety is a process and the continued guidance, accountability, and tailored adjustments are incredibly helpful in achieving progress.
Q: Why does my dog find being alone so stressful?
A: Dogs have been bred to be highly social animals forming strong attachment bonds to their caregivers, so being alone can feel very unsafe for some. Research shows that early life stress, such as poor prenatal conditions, early weaning, or chaotic early environments can shape a dog’s developing stress system and make solitude harder to cope with later on. Sudden routine changes or past negative experiences can add to this sensitivity, triggering a genuine fear response rather than “bad behaviour.”
Importantly, it’s rarely the owner’s ‘fault’. Separation anxiety is rooted in biology and early experiences, and with gradual training most dogs can learn to feel safe when alone.
Q: Are there any other ways to treat separation anxiety?
A: You may have heard of success stories with other methods, however these are often one off unique cases. Using systematic desensitisation is the only consistently proven way to help dogs with separation anxiety long term. As it is a 1:1 service we will of course explore options on how to progress the training depending on each individual case.
